When Bloggers Meet

Things have been a little quiet on the 'ole blogging front lately. It's not you, it's me. I'm feeling quite drained at the moment, like I don't have anything left to give. But of course I find more to give every day, because the world doesn't stop just because I'm flat. My kids don't stop. The washing doesn't stop piling up. The crumbs don't pick themselves up off the floor. Stupid fucking crumbs WHY WON'T YOU PICK YOURSELVES UP? Ahem.

I'm a strange person; slightly neurotic even. I'm not a fan of making new friends, I'm concerned that I don't give enough to the friends that I already have, so more would just complicate things. When Catherine said she was organising a meet up for Sydney bloggers, the opportunity to meet the people behind the blogs was too good to pass up. It didn't feel like a chance to make new friends, it felt more like an opportunity to catch up with old ones.

Kylez and I instantly recognised Catherine and Jodi when we entered Kirribilli Club. They were just as funny and friendly in real life as they are online and my nerves were quickly put to rest. Big thanks to the girls for organising, and for being so lovely. I realised I was quite hungry, and if I didn't get some food into me then I would no doubt be very drunk, very quickly, so all of my focus turned to lining my stomach.

It's funny meeting someone you only know online. Sometimes you have to ask for a blog name before you know who someone is. But some people, some people you just feel like you already know. Like this girl.

When Kim walked in, I didn't need an introduction. We hugged like old friends and quickly got to discussing our deepest, darkest secrets. And drank wine. Far too much wine.

Then there's this girl.

I won't lie, I felt star struck. I'm in awe of Grace's fabulousness, and was impressed to find that she's even more fabulous in person.

Kudos to the only man in the room, the one and only Kevin. Just quietly, I think it was an absolute dream for him, to be surrounded by so many awesome women!

There were so many amazing bloggers there and please forgive me for not mentioning you all, but I figured it's safer to pick a few favourites and leave the rest unnamed to avoid forgetting anyone! And now finally, I get it. I get why you all love this world so much. I get this notion of making new friends. Lifelong friends.

So thank you to all who I met on Saturday, it was a wonderful day.

And I'll write more soon. I promise.

  1. Oh I am so jealous! I really want to have a meetup here in Tassie but the organisation never gets off the ground. I think I will be trying again!

I also really want to go to the DP Conf, but M and FIL will be visiting us then from Florida.

  5. It was so much fun wasn't it! I had a ball an it's really helped my nerves for DPCon, now that I will actually 'know' know a few people there! Still have to write up my post about what happens when a drunk blogger/friend tries to give direction home after a blog meet-up! I doubt you even remember!

  20. I don't get to many blogger events but really enjoy the chance to meet new people. You know they say its hard to make new friends as we get older. I think, for bloggers, we have a connection around blogging which makes it a perfect network to make new friends. I've been more quiet on the blogging front for almost a year so it's walkways interesting meeting newer, enthusiastic bloggers. It was lovely to meet you. Maybe we'll get to chat more next time.

  22. Sounds like you had great fun. I love the brand events for this reason - I get to fly down and catch up with my Sydney/Melbourne peeps for a day so I don't feel so left out that I can't attend the other ones.
