It's about Connecting

I was planning on making a big deal of it, cracking the big 1-0-0.

I was talking on the phone to a friend, telling her how I was nearing 100 posts.

"100? Are you serious? How many is that a month?" She asked, trying to do the math, trying to figure out how I not only find the time, but how on earth I find enough words to fill 100 posts. Bitch please, I have enough words to write THOUSANDS of posts, but whether or not anyone would read them is another story.

Then I jumped online to write some thankful goodness to discover that this will be post 101. Damn you Wordless Wednesday, I should have just skipped you altogether.

101

And because I'm a chronic over-sharer, and a little spontaneous, as my fingers strum the keys and my brain ticks, a little voice says "Let's post some stats!"

Ok little voice, let's do it.

So, what has Kelly achieved in 100 posts?
  • 182 Facebook likes
  • 102 Twitter followers
  • 73 Google Friend Connect followers
  • 34 Google+ followers (I think, not entirely sure how to interpret this one!)
  • 8 Networked Blog followers
  • 7 email subscribers (WOOOOP! That's one to brag about lol)
  • 91 feed subscribers
  • 15245 page views (as at 11:40pm 17/10)
  • 1254 published comments (though in all fairness 50% are probably mine!)
  • 1 less real life friend (yes, I just had to throw that in there!)
In all honesty, I don't know what this means. I don't know if this means that I'm on my way to achieving my goal of WORLD DOMINATION or if it means that I'm a slug, slowly slithering along leaving nothing but a slimey film. But in all honesty, those numbers up there... I don't really care.

What I do care about is the connection. And here's where the thankfulness comes in.

I'm thankful for the real life friends and family who show an interest, who enjoy my ramblings. When we catch up and you tell me how much you enjoyed something I wrote, I'm filled with happiness. When you send me a text or a facebook message or leave a comment, you make my day. We're connecting.

I'm thankful for the wonderful bloggers I've discovered. When I read your posts nodding and giggling, agreeing and disagreeing, we're connecting. When you reply to my comments or comment on my posts, we're connecting. (And I realise that I'm normal).

It's what life is about isn't it? Discovering people. Relating to people. Connecting with people. But it's also about discovering yourself. As Zanni from Heart Mama wrote:

"For me personally, sharing my life and experiences on social media and in a blog has been like putting a mirror up to my life. I am forced to reflect on what is going on. Through words that are read by an audience instead of hastily tucked away, I am exploring my internal and external worlds."

I'm thankful that this blog gives me the opportunity to reflect. No matter what the numbers or the critics say I'll keep on writing, both for myself and for those who take the time to read.

Playing around with the new laptop's web cam = FUN

What I do find interesting though, are the posts that get the most hits.
I don't see a pattern, I don't see consistency. I don't see a theme.

So tell me, dear reader, with regard to this here blog, what are YOU thankful for? What brings you here? What have you loved? What have you hated? (Besides that post that lost me that friend). Please don't be shy. Or if you must, be anonymous!

Thankful Thursday

  4. I, too find the posts that get the most comments/traffic REALLY odd - I don't get it - like you say, there's no pattern. Darren at Problogger said you should pay attention to the types of posts that get the most comments but mine seem so disparate, it's hard to pin down.

I come here because I find you funny and I like that you swear (a little) and the things you write about are quite similar to the stuff that I write about so that resonates with me. You seem like the sort of person that I would like in real life, if that makes sense!

Keep up the good work, lovely - your blog is ace!

    1. Hmm... now see that's different, most comments V most views. I'll have to go back and review the number of comments on each post, maybe that will tell me more.
Thanks for the constructive feedback! You know, I think I swear more in real life than I do here? lol.
Hopefully we get to meet at DPCon13 xx

  5. You are doing amazing! When I started blogging, for months I basically kept to myself, in a little bubble. I didn't actively search out other blogs, that wasn't the reason I started to blog afterall and I didn't see the point.

But wow, can I say how glad I am that I started to connect with people? It makes blogging even more fun! And I get to read all kinds of amazing stories.

Congrats on your stats, i'd be happy with that!

I started in April, April fool's day... hahaha. I have only had 6000 pageviews, but I am coming up to my 100th post soon!

  7. I blog because I lead a rather sheltered life in terms of socialising and meeting people and it is always good to hear that I am not the only one that thinks that / that that has happened to / that feels that way - it's good to know I'm not alone.
I don't care about the numbers - in fact I don't even know how many posts I have had - I do know that I have over 11k page views (for what that is worth) - for me it is about writing something and then hearing other people say (like me) - Oh, I have had that happen to me too.
    Have a great day !

  9. I am thankful that someone I know in real life finally gets this whole blogging thing that I've been doing and now understands why I do it - the connections! I am looking forward to reading the next 100 posts, and the next 100 posts and the next 100 after that! I have only 58 more posts to go till I hit the big 1000 and I am thinking that I need to do something to celebrate. Not sure what yet, but I'll figure it out! I am also thankful for Rinny being Rinny! And Jen being Jen!

      OMG I can't believe you're almost at 1000, AWESOME! Let's have a twitter party!
I was going to write that I'm thankful to you for bringing me here but I worried that people might start to wonder if you'd sponsored me? hahaha.
      But thank you xxx

    2. Never an 'I told you so', I can totally see why people don't get it, you just need to take the plunge to really see that it's not just a bunch of nerds and geeks that do it. Lol! It's funny you say that about a twitter party, I thought the same thing! Lol! I would always sponsor you, especially at AA ( although in our cas eit would prob end up being BA - Bloggers Anonymous!)

I was surprised to find how community minded it is and while I was uncertain at first to join in, it's the best community and I'm so glad to be a part of it.
